Judging from the clothing of people coming in and out, presumably its staff, I can only speculate that this is one of those member-only eateries of the Taipei elite. The architecture is immaculate, but the hustle and bustle of passing traffic makes one wonder: is it just me or the pagoda is somehow misplaced?

In a place steeped in Chinese culture and Eastern heritage, the Fountain by director Darren Aronofsky is so strangely familiar, audience here could understandably be either pleasantly surprised, or quickly put off by the intricately weaved plot focusing on one simple philosophical idea.

Follies of Man in Predicting Mother Nature

In with an attitude on December 14, 2006 by jiakabai

“The bird flu has been scraring the shit out of scientists and health officials the world over since 2004 (some would say even earlier than that). Following the outbreak of the illusive SARS, epidemic experts like those working for World Health Organization were so apprehensive, they didn’t want to err on the careless side.

Speculations predicting the virus would mutate to be capable of transfering from fowls to human, even human to human, were spreading so quickly, the easily-excitable media soon paints an apocalyptical picture inspired by the historical pandemics. But to date, their oracle is yet to be fulfilled.

Granted, over a hundred death cases has been attributed to the deadly H5N1 avian flu virus. Also, the possibility of human to human transfer is all but confirmed. However, these casulties pales in comparison to the destructive potential experts has been warning authorities in assessing the mutatant pathogen.

It seems in predicting the future, Mother Nature has a knack of outsmarting even the shrewdest of the wise men. It looks on, it flip a swith here and there, and it chuckles for the confusion it has caused.”
